A song of adventure for all ages
by Tony Gagliardi
When Tomorrow Comes (Lyrics written by Tony Gagliardi)
Come sail away with me
We’ll sail across the sea
Come sail the oceans blue
We’ll sail away together
Together (Together)
Together (Together)
We’ll set sail on the morning sun
We’ll have so much fun
Across the tide, and over the sea
We’ll cast off together
Together (Together)
Together (Together)
Sailing under the sun
When tomorrow comes
Sailing over the sea
Together (Together)
Together (Together)
The night falls mysteriously
As the sun sets over the sea
The moon and stars, in the night sky
Will guide you and I
We’ll sing and dance, and laugh like pirates
Recounting tales of past alignments
Drinking rum, and having fun
Sailing under the sun
Sailing under the sun
When tomorrow comes
Sailing over the sea
That’s where I wanna be
Sailing under the stars
Sai-ai-ai-ai-ling
Sai-ai-ai-ai-ling
Sai-ai-ai-ai-ling
Sai-ai-ai-ai-ling
[Guitar Solo]
Come sail away with me
We’ll sail across the sea
Come sail the oceans blue
We’ll sail away together
Together (Together)
Together (Together)
Sailing under the sun
When tomorrow comes
Sailing over the sea
That’s where I wanna be
Sailing under the moon
Shining its light on you
Sailing under the stars
Across the Milky Way
(When tomorrow comes) (together)
When tomorrow comes
(When tomorrow comes) (together)
When tomorrow comes
(When tomorrow comes) (forever)
When tomorrow comes
(I’ll be thinking about tomorrow)
When tomorrow comes
(I’ll be thinking about tomorrow)
When tomorrow comes
(I’ll be thinking about tomorrow)
When tomorrow comes
(I’ll be thinking about tomorrow)
When tomorrow comes
(I’ll be thinking about tomorrow)
When tomorrow comes
Together

This song was written from a melodic verse that came to me. I saw a ship after the verse came. Sometimes you hear something coming before you see it.
The verse was:
Come sail away with me
We’ll sail across the sea
Come sail the oceans blue
We’ll build a boat together
I started writing more verses and the song came together pretty quickly from my initial lyrics and strumming some chords on my acoustic guitar. Once I had the lyric and chord structure, I then started sketching/tracking a demo with more guitars and guide vocals. I then sent off my demo with a bunch of written notes to the session musicians to track their parts. I was blown away with the session muso performances. All first take wonders! No modifications required… They took my demo and ideas to another level. During the tracking I decided to get the keys player to layer in some samples that would take the arrangement in a Pirate movie type direction. The theme type instruments added were:
I tried to retake the vocals after the session player recordings, for final mixing, but couldn’t capture the same vibe. I deliberated and decided it was best for the song to the leave the guide vocals for mixing as that is what they tracked to, and I was more relaxed and had a lot of fun laying the guide vocals in the early stages. They weren’t perfect but they worked.
The mix journey was long… and after a dozen mix engineers I found Stav. He gave the song the attention it needed. We sometimes didn’t agree on some aspects of the mix but we pushed each other and wow what a battle scene he created in the bridge section! He brought it to life way beyond my expectations, turning a single timpani (orchestral drum) into a simulated battle scene with canon fire shooting across the sound stage and with the dramatic bells the pirate scene came to life.
Everyone involved in this song inputted a certain something and I hope it makes you feel a certain something when listening to it.
So join me on an adventure over the sea, from casting off together on the morning sun, having fun sailing across the sea, through the turbulent seas battle scene under the stars and then heading home, or to a new adventure out on the horizon, merrily through the rocking outro…
Cheers
